Federal Scholarship Board is offering the BEA Scholarship Awards for Undergraduate, Masters and PhD students to study Overseas. A Federal Government Scholarship that is fully sponsored by the Government/BEA parties.

The Honourable Minister of Education (HME), Mallam Adamu Adamu, hereby invites interested and qualified Nigerians to participate in the 2020/2021 Nomination Computer Based Test (CBT) for the Federal Government Scholarship Awards for BEA Scholarship:


i) Undergraduate (UG) studies tenable in Russia, Morocco, Algeria, Serbia, Hungary,
Egypt, Tunisia, Turkey, Cuba, Romania, Japan, Macedonia; and
ii) Postgraduate (PG) studies tenable in Russia (for those whose first degrees were
obtained from Russia), China, Hungary, Serbia, Turkey, Japan, Mexico, South Korea,

Why the Federal Government Scholarship Abroad?

The Federal Scholarship Board FSB is a Committee set up by the Federal Ministry of Education under the law to regulate every Scholarship program, Exchange Programs for Nigerian Students, Bilateral Exchange Agreement BEA Scholarships Awards for Nigeria Students, Embassy Scholarships, and other Scholarship opportunities for Nigerian Students.

It is the responsibility of the Federal Government Scholarship abroad to carry out Scholarship Verification Exercise for Scholarships like the Federal Government Scholarship for Nigerian Students to Study Abroad.

The Federal Scholarship Board choose scholars who are eligible to study in various countries to represent Nigeria.

They make laws governing the Award of Scholarships in Nigeria. This is achieved through the approval of the Ministry of Education in Nigeria.

What is BEA Scholarship Awards?

In our own efforts to add value, we have researched and carefully written this article to help all undergraduate and graduate students in science at various higher education institutions obtain the scholarship.

It is important to note that it is an annual routine for the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Education, to offer millions of naira to sponsor several Nigerian students who have been academically accredited at different levels of education. This scholarship goes into effect annually at the beginning of the academic session 2020/2021.

Scholarship Worth

The participating countries are responsible for the tuition and accommodation, while the Nigeria government takes care of supplements, warm clothing, health insurance, research grant where applicable and take off.

Eligibility for the Federal Government Scholarship in 2020

Undergraduate Scholarship:

For undergraduate applications;

  •  All applicants for undergraduate degree courses must possess a minimum qualification of Five (5) Distinctions (As & Bs) in the Senior Secondary School Certificate, WAEC (May/June) only in the subjects relevant to their fields of study including English Language and Mathematics.
  •  All other applicants (UG, HND & NCE) must be registered full-time students in their second year or above in Federal or State Universities, Polytechnics, Monotechnics and Colleges of Education.
  • All undergraduate Scholarship applicants (Physically challenged inclusive) must have at least 4.0 Cumulative Grade Points Aggregate (CGPA) on a five (5) point scale or its equivalents or 5.0 on a 7 point scale.
  •  Certificates should not be more than two (2) years old (2017 & 2018).
  •  Age limit is from 18 to 20 years.

Postgraduate Scholarship:

For all postgraduate entries;

  •  All applicants must hold a First Degree with at least 2nd Class Upper Division.
  •  The applicants who are previous recipients of Foreign Awards must have completed at least two (2) years post qualification or employment practice in Nigeria.
  •  All applicants must have completed N.Y.S.C.
  •  Age limit is 35 years for Masters and 40 years for PhD.
  •  Evidence of readiness to be released by the employer.

The BEA Scholarship Awards are open for both students of Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) studies. The BEA Scholarship Awards are tenable in the following fields;

Undergraduate level 

The award is open for students of the following undergraduate programs:

  •  Engineering
  •  Geology
  •  Agriculture
  •  Sciences
  •  Mathematics
  •  Languages
  •  Environmental Sciences
  •  Sports
  •  Law
  •  Social Sciences
  •  Biotechnology
  •  Architecture
  •  Medicine (very limited)

N/B: Postgraduate level (Masters Degree and Ph.D.) students of all fields are eligible to apply.

IMPORTANT: Since the BEA countries are non-English speaking, applicants should be prepared to undertake a mandatory one-year foreign language of the country of choice which will be the standard medium of instruction and all applicants for Hungarian Scholarship must visit the website: Endeavor to complete the application form online and print the completed form and bring to the interview.

What To Bring To Interview?

All eligible applicants are to report for interview at the venues scheduled for their respective Zones of origin for proper identification. Two sets of the Printed, Completed application forms are usually submitted at the various interview centers with the following attachments:

  •  Two sets of Photocopies of Educational Certificates and Testimonials of previous schools attended with the originals for sighting;
  •  Only ONE certificate is accepted i.e WAEC of May/June only for undergraduate applicants;
  •  Two copies of Birth certificate  from the National Population Commission;
  •  State of Origin/LGA certificate duly signed, stamped and dated;
  •  Four (4) passport-sized colored photographs on a white background;
  •  Academic transcripts and NYSC discharge or Exemption certificates will be required from applicants for Postgraduate Studies.

How to Apply for Federal Government Scholarship 2020

Candidates nominated and finally selected by the awarding BEA countries will be required to submit to the Federal Scholarship Board the following:

  •  Authenticated copies of academic certificates;
  • Data page of the current International passport, and
  • Specified Medical Reports &
  • Police clearance certificate where necessary.

  • You are to fill out and save your information on each of the sections on the form one after the other thereafter submit your application on the last section of the form.
  • You can go back to any of the sections to edit your information and save again as much as may be necessary on or before the closing date.
  • All asterisk ( * ) fields are compulsory.

What is the age limit for this Federal Government Scholarship?

The age limit differs according to the levels. for undergraduate candidates, you must be between 18 to 20 years and for postgraduate candidates, you must be between 35 to 40 years.

Are there documents I should submit with my Application?
